Feliz 20 de Julio!

Today is Colombia's Independence Day. *waves flag*

I'm sharing some pics of Bogotá behind the cut so you can see how pretty is my city.

And just for the fun of it, a meme:

Ask me for "top five" lists of pretty much anything, and I will list for you my top five of that thing or things. Copy and give your own top fives.

I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith tonight. Just for the record, to anyone else who has seen it, that's not Bogotá. The whole theater erupted in laughter when they showed the image of a very small city, without a single building and surrounded with wild vegetation, and the words "Bogotá, Colombia" written at the bottom. Ok, I didn't expect to actually see my city, but at least show me something with buildings. This is a big city, not a small town. Also, I might live in the tropic, but I also live in a mountain, which means the weather here is cold. I was wearing a jacket and a scarf and they were showing Brad Pitt in front of a fan. *shakes head* [/rant ]

Now, besides that obvious lack of information, I loved the movie. Brad, Angelina, guns... *dies* I should go see it again. ^_^

Today is Colombia's Independence Day *waves flag* So in honor of that, I'm making a list of ten simple things I love about Colombia.

1. La gente – The people
2. Los Paisajes – The landscapes
3. Las montañas – The mountains
4. El mar – The Sea
5. La arepa – I can't translate this, sorry.
6. El ajiaco – See above.
7. Los raspaos de pueblo – Small town's ice lollies.
8. El hecho de poder comprar lo que quieras en un semáforo – The fact that you can buy anything in a stop light.
9. Los mercados de las pulgas – Fly markets
10. El café - Coffee

¡Feliz 20 de Julio!

----

My trip was great. I had a lot of fun. I'll see if I can share piccies later. For the moment, here is a pic of the lake.

Pic )

Three things I learnt from the trip:
- When you get a flat tire, an innocent look and the damsel in distress act will get you a long way.
- Driving a boat is harder than it looks
- Perverting sixteen-year-old boys is a lot of fun.

¡Viva Colombia!

Tinto y Café con Leche

Yes, I'm using this fic to tempt you all to come and visit me in Colombia or, at least, to make you buy Colombian coffee. After all, it’s the best in the world :)

This fic is for Ruth, who won one of the "Lyric Challenges".

She asked for a ficlet involving coffee, any pairing. Here it is, I hope you like it. Sorry I couldn't make it 500 words.

Thanks to Anne for beta reading. *hugs*

1. Tell me about Bogotá. What would you take me to see if I was visiting?

You do know you could have me talking about my city for hours, don't you? Well it is beautiful, it's surrounded by beautiful mountains and the weather is great. Well, I like it at least. It's a little cold and sometimes it rains but you might as well get some really sunny days.

Places I would take you:

2. How did you get into studying languages?

I've always liked them and I really find interesting learning to express myself in different languages. You can study two carriers at the same time in my university so I thought I would give it a try and it would fit with my other one, literature.

3. I read a few of your stories - you have a very introspective style. What inspires that?

I think what happens is that when I write my mind is always screaming "why?". I like to play with characters and put them in different situations but I also like to know what they are thinking and what the reasons behind everything they do are. I think that is very important, what drives someone to do something... that's the real question I want to answer when I write.

4. The lyrics you post evry so often - do you decide on those ahead of time or do they just strike you at the moment you're typing?

Both actually. Sometimes I think of a song that fits the post in the moment I'm writing it and other times I just want to use something special. And occasionally I've search for something difficult just to keep Arcada from wining *winks*

5. An easy one to finish - how did you meet our friend Anne?

Long version:

Once upon a time, a young and innocent little girl decided to enter the mysterious place they call Gundam Wing Fanfiction. Deciding soon that she had a special liking for a certain blond pilot (no offense, Trowa, I love you too), she decided to search for stories about him. Soon she discovered the awful truth and learned that in a world so vast as GW fanfiction, lived horrible pieces of fiction that scarred her for life. (She is still getting over the NCS fic involving a bastard Heero, a wimpy Quatre and a stuffed camel *shakes head*) But, Misanagi, being the brave girl she was, didn't give up and continued her quest to find good Quatre stories. One day she found one called Missing Pieces by a certain Anne Olsen. She read it, she loved it and she left a review. Days later she found a mail from the author thanking her for the feedback. The amazing thing was the sig of said mail where at the bottom; she could find a link that said 'Society in the Defense of Quatre's Balls'. Misanagi's eyes opened wide and after a moment of thanking the heavens, she followed the link. What she found was a paradise of amazing Quatre stories and fantastic authors. After spending some time lurking and worshiping the authors; Misanagi finally had the courage to write and post something of her own. The poor an innocent girl didn't have a beta reader and included in her post a plea for one, for she knew she was torturing the readers with poor grammar and spelling. Great was the girl's surprise when none other than the list owner herself answered the call. From then on, Anne has been annoyed by multiple beta readings and fic stalking by Misanagi. In return, Anne started the quest to pervert the poor innocent girl and destroy her sweet and impeccable reputation. They remain friends to this day.

Short Version:

SDQB and she is my beta :)

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

A time to rant: One of my cousins had his Bar Mitzvah today. I went to the synagogue, pretended I didn't hear the obnoxious women speaking about fungus behind me and smiled politely at all the people I didn't know but that felt the need to say hello to me anyway.

So I put on the magic face that has a permanent hypocritical smile on, went to the reception and made numerous of torturous small talk with people that were as deep as pot hole.

In honor of such a memorable occasion I decided to skip class and simply come home to lie on my bed and watch sitcoms with my best friend.

And a time to narrate: Today was the car-less day in Bogotá! (Notice the sarcastic exclamation point)

Car-less as in no cars. Let me give you a mental picture of this, I live in the capital city, lots of traffic lots of people. Then one day a year the city hall decides that you can't take your car out and everyone has to use public service, a bicycle or the forgotten art of walking, to get where they want to go.

It's actually not that bad but it gave me a pretty good excuse to cut class. Not that I need one anyway.

A time to complain: My stomach is hurting a lot. Stupid stomach!

And time to write: First chapter of Inverse is posted. Click here if you want to read it.

A time to explain: [livejournal.com profile] galadriel_lll must be laughing her ass off but I just had to use this Bible passage. When we were in Jerusalem I heard it so many times that I think I can even recite it (in Spanish, mind you).

And a time to end.
